Special Guest Stephanie Bailey will lead a discussion in relation to our current exhibition, One More Time with Feeling by Jessie Beier, and the 2012 film Frances Ha—the story of a New York woman who throws herself headlong into her dreams, even as their possibility fades. It presents an image of contemporary life and the various responses such contemporaneity necessitates (or limits). This discussion will pose questions of what it means to be a “response”-able body in the world today, and thus how we might create exit strategies for a world otherwise defined by stasis, exhaustion, pain, despondency, and despair, or put otherwise, perpetual irony.
